NCPOR at 12th SCAR Open Science Conference, Oslo, Norway

NCPOR researchers actively participated in the 12th SCAR Open Science Conference 2026 in Oslo, Norway, under the theme “Diving into Antarctic Science – Making Waves for the Future.”  Representing NCPOR, Dr. Sarat Chandra Tripathy, Dr. Vikram Goel, Dr. Juhi Yadav, Mr. Sunil Kumar and Ms. Anirjita Das presented their research, contributing to scientific exchange and discussions on the future of Antarctic science. 

Dr. Juhi Yadav, Project Scientist-I, NCPOR, convened two scientific sessions during the 12th Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Open Science Conference (OSC) in Oslo, Norway.

The first session, Session S08, titled "Antarctic Extreme Events - Causes and Feedbacks," was co-convened alongside Dr. Petra Heil, and Dr. Alexandra Zuhr. The session featured a total of 33 presentations focused on synthesizing advances in polar extreme weather events, atmospheric rivers, heatwaves, surface mass balance variability, and ice shelf stability.

The second session, Session S06, titled "Understanding Rapid Changes in the Atmosphere–Ice–Ocean Boundary of the Southern Ocean," was co-convened with Dr. Robert Ricker, Dr. Isabelle Giddy, Dr. Andreas Klocker, Dr. Tore Hattermann, and Dr. Roberta Pirazzini. The session featured a total of 55 presentations addressing physical interactions across ice shelves, sea ice, atmospheric forcing, and ocean heat transport in the Southern Ocean.

Together, these sessions brought together 88 scientific presentations, offering a comprehensive understanding of Antarctic climate variability and ocean–ice boundary dynamics.
