The grand opening of the 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Kochi, India held on 21.05.2024. Started with a plenary session and a welcome address by Chairman, ATCM46-Ambassador Pankaj Saran.

Hon'ble Minister of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India, Shri Kiren Rijiju addressed the ATCM46 & CEP26 delegates and other dignitaries. He emphasized the importance of Antarctica and appreciated India's commitment towards this last wilderness.

Ambassador Pavan Kapoor, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in his remarks, highlighted the India's engagement in Antarctica.Dr. Shailesh Nayak, Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies, discussed about Antarctica and Climate Change. Dr. Nayak highlighted the importance of understanding the impact of changing climate on Antarctica.
