Dr. Avinash Kumar, Scientist-D, National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is one of the first Indian polar scientist to receive the prestigious award from the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) Asian Polar Science Fellowship 2020 under the category of Established Polar Scientists on his proposed research on “Mechanism of Changes in the Arctic Sea-ice and its Possible Connections with the Lower Latitudes Weather Patterns”. His proposed research is to identify the uncertainty regarding the comprehensive mechanism of changes in Arctic sea-ice and its interaction from ocean-atmosphere coupled mechanism. The study would help to establish the long-term collaborative research between NCPOR, India and KOPRI, South Korea, and to setup the model-based studies and to identify the relationship between the Arctic warming and Asian extreme weather conditions.
