The National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR-Vasco), an autonomous body of Ministry of Earth Sciences celebrated Antarctic Day on December 1st, 2016.The Antarctic Day function was presided over by Dr. M Ravichandran– Director, NCAOR while the key note lecture was delivered by Shri Mirza Javed Beg, an Antarctic Veteran and member of the first Indian Scientific Expedition to South Pole. NCAOR organized painting competition with themes such as Climate Change, Antarctica as I imagine and Antarctic Flags for school children. Over 110 paintings were received from 15 schools from Vasco. The best paintings and flags were felicitated while the participating schools were appreciated with a plaque.The best 10 flags and the best 3 paintings from each theme will be sent to Antarctica this December via the Voyage Expedition which leaves for Antarctica in mid December. A personal message poster signed by the participating students is being submitted to the research bases of India viz., Bharati and Maitri along with the best paintings and flags.
