A major milestone achieved! The Keel Laying of the new Ocean Research Vessel (ORV) was completed on 08 April 2026 at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd., Kolkata, marking significant progress in construction. With ~50% of the steel hull already erected, this stage reflects steady advancement under modern modular shipbuilding practices.
The event was graced by Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, along with representatives from MoES, NCPOR, GRSE and key stakeholders. With hull fabrication progressing, the project now advances into assembly and outfitting phases, aligned with timelines and quality standards—reinforcing NCPOR’s commitment to excellence and coordinated execution.
